How we help you when pregnancy does not happen
We only examine what your question calls for. What comes next is decided once the previous result is in.
First consultation
In the first appointment we go through your history, any results you already have and the next sensible steps. If you have documents from another practice, please bring them. The first consultation is a medical service and is billed through your health insurance unless you are a self-payer.
To the first consultationDiagnostics when pregnancy does not happen
Because the laboratory is on site, ultrasound findings and blood results are usually available the same day. Endoscopic diagnostics we carry out ourselves.
To diagnosticsAssessing fertility
It has not worked for months or years, and so far nobody has told you why. We record hormone levels, ultrasound, tubal patency and a semen analysis, then we put the results in context.
Assess fertilityFertility treatment
Which path is right for you depends on the diagnosis, on age and on what you have already been through. We tell you which route we consider most promising and why.
To treatmentTreatment methods
Insemination, fertilisation in the laboratory (IVF) and the injection of a single sperm into the egg (ICSI) differ in effort and in strain. We explain the differences and tell you what we recommend. A semen analysis is also carried out on site, as a self-pay service.
To the methodsFreezing eggs
Eggs and sperm can be frozen while the window is still open, also known as social freezing when it is part of your own life planning. We are a member of the FertiPROTEKT network.
To freezing eggsFrom the first consultation to treatment
This is how the path runs from your first contact to treatment. The results consultation at the end closes with a medical recommendation.
Make an appointment, online via Doctolib.
First consultation covering your history and any results you bring along.
Diagnostics for both partners.
Results consultation with a medical recommendation, then treatment begins.
Which examinations are part of it is decided by the question at hand, not by a fixed package. That is why the third step looks different for a couple who have already been through two treatments than for someone coming for the first time.
Fertility centre in Berlin for couples, female couples and single women
The fertility centre at the Gedächtniskirche is a reproductive medicine practice in Berlin-Charlottenburg and has been treating couples, female couples and single women since 1999. The practice is run by Dr. med. Matthias Bloechle and Dr. med. Silke Marr.
We are among the first centres in Berlin to offer fertility treatment. We also train doctors.
Our specialist focus is genetic diagnostics. This includes preimplantation genetic testing, where embryos are examined for a known hereditary disease before transfer. We helped establish this procedure in Germany, up to and including the change in the law.
Women with endometriosis or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) also come to us, as do couples whose embryos repeatedly fail to implant. In medical terms this is called implantation failure.
We look at the overall picture of your health and your fertility and tell you honestly what your chances are. Then we discuss together which method offers you the best prospects.
Why waiting rarely pays off
An unfulfilled wish for a child does not have to mean illness. Your egg reserve is determined by age, and that window is narrower than it feels.
The longer you wait, the smaller the reserve a treatment can work with. An appointment for assessment tells you first of all where you stand.
What patients tell us after treatment
Once treatment is complete, patients write to us about how they experienced their time with us. We publish their letters with a first name and an abbreviated surname.
At first it was not easy for us to go to a practice like this, but after the very first appointment we knew it had been the right decision. The doctors and nurses treated us well medically, we also laughed together warmly and we had great trust in them. The result is now in our arms and it is the best thing we have ever experienced. The M. family
From the bottom of our hearts we want to thank you all. For the warm care, for the courage to keep going, for the strength to believe in a miracle, for the very good advice and for always having an open ear.Stefanie S.
I never knew how tired a person can be, but the days with my son are wonderful. I am endlessly grateful to you.Patient A.M.
Thank you for the friendly and sensitive way you treated us. We feel very supported and understood in our wish for a child. The B. family
What does fertility treatment cost?
What you pay depends on the treatment required and on your insurance status. Members of a statutory health insurance fund receive, under certain conditions, a subsidy of 50 percent towards the basic services. The first consultation is normally covered by statutory health insurance.
For privately insured patients the insurer covers the treatment. How far it does so depends on the policy.
The first consultation is a medical service and is billed. Our information evening on the second Thursday of every month at 6 pm is free of charge. What a treatment costs in your case depends on the procedure, on the number of attempts and on which examinations are added.
Does statutory health insurance contribute?
Following the first consultation, statutory health insurance funds cover half the cost of the measures in an approved treatment plan under section 27a SGB V, for a limited number of attempts depending on the procedure. However, entitlement exists only in certain cases. The law requires marriage, it permits only the eggs and sperm of the spouses, and it sets age limits (as of September 2026).
If these conditions are not met, there is no statutory entitlement to the subsidy. This applies to unmarried couples, female couples and single women who wish to have a child.
Whether a subsidy applies in your case, and at what level, is something we clarify individually.

Frequently asked questions about our fertility centre at the Gedächtniskirche
We have already been to another centre. Do we start again from scratch with you?
No, simply bring the results you already have and we will go through them in the first consultation. We only repeat what is medically necessary, for example because a value is too old or a question has been left open. Many of the difficult cases that come to us have been treated before.
Do you also treat female couples and single women?
Yes, we treat female couples and single women who wish to have a child just like everyone else. On the cost side there is a clear difference, because there is no statutory entitlement to the subsidy here. We discuss this in the first consultation so that you can plan.
Is the first consultation free of charge?
No, it is billed as a medical service. Statutory health insurance funds normally cover it and private insurers reimburse it. What is completely free for you is our monthly information evening. If you are not ready to commit yet, that is the place to start.
Do you also examine men?
Yes, in house. Alongside the semen analysis there is the CatSper test, which takes things further when the semen analysis is unremarkable and pregnancy still does not happen. Both are billed as self-pay services.
What are the chances of a pregnancy?
According to the German IVF Register the pregnancy rate is around 30 percent per embryo transfer. What that means for you depends on your findings, and that is exactly what we discuss after the diagnostics. We deliberately do not publish figures of our own.
This page describes what applies in general and does not replace an examination. Which steps make sense in your situation can only be said once your results are available. Source for the pregnancy rate: German IVF Register.
